Don't Try to game the Interwebs

Look at me, I'm a cool CEO.  I'm Hip.  I can talk to the kids....

    Just last night I was talking to Julie about why I think Reddit is awesome and unique.  I pointed out a IAMA that the CEO of Nissan was doing.  I explained that I think it is awesome that we have this CEO of this huge company, and I have the chance to talk to and if I wanted to, make fun of this powerful man, with out any negitive consequences.  There are few people in the world, not even people on his Board that could say the things that redditors where saying to this guy.  Sometimes he would comment, sometimes not.  But no one got fired or put in jail for voicing their opinion.  True free speech.  No where else can you get this level of access.  Where else can a Mcdonalds fry cook and the CEO of Nissan geek out on how great the 240x is.  We live in a great time.

And, then I was made a Liar. Again

    So, as I was praising how well this IAMA was going and how awesome it was.  I started to noticed something.  Every question that was asked had perfect grammar and spelling.  And super, like top hat like polite.  Like over the top, political correct, office pansey type polite.  It lacked Reddit's trademark streight-forwardness.  They read like a office memo.  I was not the only one that noticed that something was, off.

Well, it turns out, more than 3/4ths of the questions that were answered by the Nissan CEO were made by accounts that were made that day.  And most of the questions were made and answered within the first 15 min.  It was so planned, and so sad.  Who on the marketing team thought this was a good idea?  What were they thinking.  This might have worked on Twitter or Facebook.  But Reddit has been notoriously resistiant to marketing teams trying to manipulate them, or game the system.  They are really good at sniffing out the BS.  Now, am not saying that reddit is not marketed to.  Some firms are able to get into the hivemind undetected.  But I give these guys kudos, they are sudtle and not in your face.  I am okay with it.  

So, this sucks, we have had powerful people do a good IAMA, so we know that it can be done.  It is sad when you see done badly, because it doesn't need to be this way.  At least it's not as bad as Rampart.  

Too Much Noise

So, what do you want to do? I don't know what do you want to do? I don't know wha....

    I have this debate way too much.  I have it almost every night with Julie, as we are both easy-going and like most movies.  I also have this debate with myself as well.  Do I want to play xbox?  Do I want to watch Netflix?  Do I want to watch Top Gear, again?  Do I want to watch someone play a game I don't own on Youtube?  Do I want to read?  Do I want to waste time on reddit?  Do I want to take a nap.  Do I want to eat a block of cheese in my underwear?  The answer is yes.  Yes I do.  I want to do them all equally the same.  I like too many things.  I want to do them all.  I want to do ALL THE THINGS!!!

I need more Hate in my life.

    Others say, I need more Love, Jesus, Patience, Food in their life.  I NEED more Hate.  I need to embrace the dark side of the force. Not really that far.  But I need to not like as many things.  I know people that have like 2 things.  And can't understand why anyone would want to do anything other than their 2 things.  I know people that just Read and Cook.  They do not watch tv, some don't even have one.  And somehow they are not crazy, maybe.  I don't know how these people do it.  I like to Read, and Cook.  But there is more to life than just Reading and Cooking.  Life would be simpler, I think.  When you sit down and just want to chill, you have one option, read.  Do you want to play a video game? Whats a video game?  Wanna watch Lord of the Rings, ALL of them?  Lord of the who?

    What were we talking about?  Maybe it is my ADD.  I have tried to just do one thing for a long period of time.  I went crazy.  I could not do it.  I need variety.  I loathe routine.  If I feel I am starting to do something on auto-pilot, I have to change it.

    It could also be along with my ADD, I am facinated by the world around me.  The internet has allowed to to learn and visit other lands.  Meet new and weird people.  I am amazed at technology, and how closer and smaller, and bigger it makes our world at the same time.  I confuses me that some people can just be content in experince one part or corner of what is out there to discover and feel.  Good thing the internet was just in diapers when I was in grade school.  I would have never gotten anything done.  Screw you teacher, I'm a gonna press random on wikipedia for 3 hours, and learn more in those 3 hours than in this whole term in your class.

What are Shower Thoughts

  You know when you had that super awesome idea?  That idea that would have changed the world?  Or that million dollar idea, that if you could just figure out a few kinks, you could do it, and make huge bank?  Where where you when you had these Ideas?  Most likely you were in the Shower.  Or in the Bath, if that is your thing.  For most of us, the Shower is the only time that you can relax.  The only thing you need to do is wash yourself, which should be an easy thing for you.  Your Brain goes into auto-pilot.  It is free to think about what ever it wants to.  This can happen in other places as well.  It can happen when you drive home from work.  Have you ever gotten home, but don't remember anything about the drive, but you now know how a nuclar reactor works.  It basicly happens when ever you are relaxed.  We don't relax enough now a days.  Exspecialy now with Smartphones and Tablets.  For most of us, the shower is the only time we have a moment to ourselfs, and can think about the life around us.  The problem is we get these great ideas, but once we go out and start our day, we forget that amazing idea.  This Blog is my attempt at capturing these profound Shower Thoughts.

Saving the World, one shower at a time

So, I am going to try to write down some of the ideas and thoughts that I get in the shower, or other relaxing moments.  I do not claim that my ideas are going to save the world, or even change it.  Most of them, honestly will be stupid.  You may be smarter than me, and have already had these same thoughts.  Also, I am using this as a way to become a better writer.  I am not a good writer.  Some posts may not make sense, due to my inability to put thought to writen word.  Also, another reason I am writing this blog is so I can remember the cool things that I want to talk about with people that are smarter than me, like my Wife.  That way I can sound not as stupid, and have my thoughts and arguments together and pretend to know that I know what I am talking about.  I am not going to atempt to apply any organization or anything like that, the posts will vary from life on Mars, to why we have eggs for breakfast.  These posts will not be perfect, some will be half of an idea, some will be long winded, but I will try to make sense, most of the time.
